As a kid I was always fascinated by Cryptozoology. I liked reading about someone pulling a rare creature like the Oarfish out of the surf. The story of the Coelacanth was another favorite. The local runs of giant squid were the stuff of legends.

I guess I was attracted to pier fishing early on for the opportunity to hook into something unknown.
