The Rusty Hook — San Pedro

Well, another bait and tackle shop bites the dust (although hopefully someone will buy the business). I’ve received monthly fishing reports on the Cabrillo Beach Pier from Alex at the Rusty Hook in San Pedro since March of 2018 and enjoyed stopping in at the store when I had a chance. The closure sounds like it's mainly due to an ADA lawsuit (a lawsuit that has ruined many businesses). Best wishes to Alex in his future ventures.

It is with a heavy heart to announce that I am listing my store for sale. The ADA lawsuit and the stress it caused has soured me on retail. The store is now ADA compliant and the parking lot has a van-accessible handicapped space. The lawsuit has been settled. Anyone holding gift cards will need to redeem them before we sell. If you have any completed repair items with us, I suggest that you pick them up before the store sells. I will make an effort to call the phone numbers that we have on the repair tags. Anyone interested in buying the store should contact my real estate agent for details: Omid Saleh from Keller Williams (818) 384-4111 or at osaleh@kw.com. My hope is that we can find someone that is passionate about fishing and will take care of our customers with integrity and fairness. I am still planning to do rod and reel repair from my home, and I will be taking that part of the business with me. If you have completed or un-completed repair work with me, please make sure we have your current contact information. I will keep you all posted about any timeline. At this point we are trying to sell the business. There is no plan to

blowout the inventory. The new owner will need everything we have in inventory to keep the doors open. Once again, I strongly suggest that gift card holders come in and redeem their gift cards.

Thank you, Alex Masumoto

The really unfortunate thing about a large number of these ADA lawsuits is that they come about from people that
just go around looking for the opportunity to file one in order to collect their share of the fines even though
they are not customers of the businesses they are suing. They take something meant to be a tool to make sure
businesses are accessible to everyone and turn it into an income generating tool.

I sincerely hope that someone will buy and continue the business as a fishing shop. It's just sad when things like this
happen.
