FYI. Posted sign on pier allows three active fishing "lines" per Long Beach Municipal Code. Contradiction of CA State law?

Yes, I don't understand that. One reason why pier fishermen are not required to have a license is because of the two line limit. Fish in the surf anjd you need a license but are allowed unlimited lines.

Maybe they mean a total of 3 active fishing lines on the pier... Not 3 lines per person. ;P

Ocean Beach pier had a 1 rod limit sign from the city, never enforced by dfg. Municipalities can make laws more stringent than the fgc 2 rod limit but not less. Maybe long beach got a special exemption just like they did to allow fishing without a license on those new observation decks. Could also be because the LB code is really old and hasn't been updated to reflect the updated state code. The state code would supercede LB in that case regardless of that sign.

Or DFw will enforce the 2-rod regs while city enforcement will let you have a pass for using 3 rods...
Kind of like state laws vs. Federal laws regarding cannabis....

Manhattan City has also has their own rules for pier fishing. No multi-hook rigs (Sabiki). No shark fishing, etc.
