Fished the morning incoming high tide. Big ocean swells, big waves and strong undertow were water conditions of the day. Definitely impacted fishing. I was the only fisherman at the end of the pier for several hours. Caught and released two Roundrays, one Thornback and a rock crab in two hours. Kind of slow.

Around 10:00 a.m. Thornbacks arrived and I caught six more plus one Jacksmelt and a Turban snail. My tally for the fishing session was 7 Thornbacks, 2 Roundrays, 1 Jacksmelt, 1 Rock crab and 1 Turban Snail. Happy to catch and release something! Morning turned out to be nice and sunny.

The highlight of my day occurred when a young man approached me and asked me to look at his hook and line setup. He had received a fishing rod/reel combination set for his birthday and was breaking it in.

After inspection I decided his available fishing gear, hook and line setup needed some fine tuning.

I tied on a hi/lo rig with #4 Eagle Claw bait hooks and used his 2 oz pyramid sinker. I gave him some anchovies, shrimp and squid. Plus a bait knife to use. I suggested he use cut bait on the hooks.

Within ten minutes he caught a Jacksmelt. He was pretty excited and couldn't stop thanking me. Another twenty minutes or so passed and he caught a Thornback. He was one happy fisherman. He took several pictures of both his fish before releasing them.

This fishing trip, opportunity was the "big catch of the day". Just like the young man, I went home very happy too.

Fish On! Enjoy your fishing weekend everyone!

If I were to cite an example of the kind of reporting that made this board a great place, I'd point to this one. Well written, great details and a hook to make it interesting reading. Great job on the photos. Wish I could do the same.
