Get Together at Catalina?

Kicking around the idea of a Get Together at Catalina in October. Although we once annually held such Get Togethers we haven't done so since 2015 when a number of factors contributed to smaller crowds and a decision to discontinue what had been probably the favorite event of the year.
We don't need any firm commitments at this time but are just wondering how many would be willing to come over to Avalon for a one day pier fishing Get Together? If there is any interest I will put together a more informative post with various costs, etc.

How could I not come?

However, I will be in Turkiye (new name) until October 10 and would need a couple of weeks to regroup.

I can talk to management of Seacrest Inn where Skipper, Sky and I (or is it me?) have been staying to see if we can get a better rate.
The hotel is very close to Mole and GPP. It is clean and has amenities.

Here is the link to more information:

I think since this a test of sorts it should be kept low key and really just be a get together durig the day for most. Come over on the early ferry, fish during the day, and head home that night. Of course people could come the day before or stay the night but the increased costs of lodging and dining in Avalon was a reason why some some people quit coming. We would pick a Saturday and simply have a chance to fish tgether and get a chance to meet the people who post on the site. We don't even need a derby although that could be arranged if people wanted it.

Would love to come but Saturdays are bad for me. Sundays are the day I could go, but I go there all the time so I understand if Saturday is selected to include more people who don't go there as often! Also I'm at a dance competition on October 12-15.

Sounds like a great idea and hope things line up where I can join!

Looks possible for me too. Anyone planning to take the Friday or Sat ferry there? Links to Catalina pier-carts would be nice since my wagon isn't eligible... :) I meant the CART itself here, not the equipment checklist... :p The ferry rules seem pretty precise to me.

Was angling to get pictures of people's Catalina-friendly pier carts... You know... Get 4 people to post pictures rather than get
4000 words written in response... :)

Lately I've been using a collapsible wagon as my pier cart but I think that it won't be allowed on the ferry based on their
posted rules. Wanted to see if I had anything else in one of my storage containers that I could rig up instead.

I have seen Catalina residents who shop for groceries on the mainland, use the collapsible grocery shopping carts like Ken's pictured above.

The Catalina Express crew are very customer friendly. However, they will not allow four-wheel carts on board, unless empty and folded.

The type of cart that Skipper uses has four wheels, but they are ok with it.

This mine for lobster trips.

Could all of you who go to Catalina semi-regularly post pics of how you pack your gear? I'm curious to see everyone's
techniques for this now...

Mine changes based on my trip.

Lobster trip,
Overnight stay on the pier trip,
Overnight stay in hotel trip.,
Kayak trip.

Since we all have different ways of fishing and different gear, it really depends on your gear.

I am sure I will be going to the island before the GTG. At that time I will take pictures of each step for overnight hotel stay.
With detail explanation of various items that I take. Sometime toward end of July.

Shortly I will be sending an email to the manager of Seacrest Inn to ask for reduced rates. I will share his response.

ATTENTION:
Just read a reply email from Seacrest Inn manager.

Due to jazz festival that weekend, his hotel is sold out.

I would imagine other hotels would be sold out or expensive.

I was going to be there from Friday-Monday. However, I can get there on Saturday and stay on the Mole over-night for Sunday GTG.

Not sure how many can do that.

Also, any weekend will be busy on Catalina Express. Thus, it would be wise to set a date and reserve seats ASAP.
