Fish ID

I have never seen this fish before. Can anyone ID it?

Assuming East Coast, that is likely a Grey/Mangrove Snapper (Lutjanus griseus).

Sorry, I should have added that this fish was caught on the San Clemente pier in SoCal.

Oh. The fish is definitely a snapper in the genus Lutjanus, but the location of capture seriously complicates things. Either way it represents an extreme range extension and is probably one of the most unusual things I've seen caught from a Southern California pier.

Edited: The railings do not look like those that I've seen at San Clemente, unless something has changed recently.

I stand corrected. I thought that my friend had caught that fish locally. Turns out he had sent me pictures from his pier fishing in Miami. Thanks for the input though.

Ego, you NAILED that fish ID. I was also put off by the reported location of the catch, which is why I did not venture a guess.
