On Thursday I got a 30 inch halibut in the surf area on a sardine. What a nice fish. May friend got a 20 1/2 inch halibut and an 18 inch halibut on sardines. It was a much better day at last. Tuesday I got a 16 inch spotted sand bass and another friend got one as well the next day. Snookie

Balboa Pier has had some areas that need to be taken care of but nobody seems to pay attention. They are all out by Ruby's on both sides of the pier. We are missing a piling on the west side out near Ruby's. That has been more than a year now. Snookie

I was there that day, and there were boils at the end of the pier. Could have been bonitos. My friend tried his lure and a couple good sized fish followed it. We had lots of good bait and lots of strikes in the surf area, but all our halibut were small. Snookie

I and my friends have never caught anything using a Salema. They are a beautiful fish but of no use to us. on Balboa Pier. We do have lots of them right now. Have to weed through them to get the herring and smelt for bait. Too bad. Snookie

Targeting squid requires first an overcast day and second a squid jig. They are easy to catch if they are around. Snookie

There was a "big" Humbolt Squid caught on Balboa Pier this morning. According to Dave, the Ruby's manager it was big. With the overcast we should be seeing some more. (I hope) Snookie

This week has improved considerably on Balboa Pier. We had good bait or all kinds and also lots of strikes. Caught several undersized halibut and lost one keeper. Everything is looking up now. Snookie

Don't forget there is still a limit on sand crabs. It is 50 sand crabs which as far as I am concerned it is not enough if the fishing is good. Snookie

Yes, the bonito are still cooperating, but because of the sardines being there I got my tenth halibut for this year. It was 23 inches and in the very surf area. It was another fun day. Snookie
