Balboa Pier Tues 8-15-23: BARREN

#1
Fished then incoming tide starting 5p.

Wind and swell were moderate, water was murky with clouds of murkyness in the current, sunny so could see the large numbers of micro-smelt hugging the pier like last week. Worked lures on all 4 sides of the end. Few anglers, but spread out in all directions trying mix of bait and sabikis

No Boils or shadow strikes from Bonito
No mackerel or sardines
Only a few med-sized top smelt caught randomly

Worst fishing i've seen in months, with the tropical storm hitting Sun/Mon next week will be interesting!

I was there that day, and there were boils at the end of the pier. Could have been bonitos. My friend tried his lure and a couple good sized fish followed it. We had lots of good bait and lots of strikes in the surf area, but all our halibut were small.

Good! must have been more active in the AM, Dusk was dead, and now water will be colder and dirty for a bit

Tried again on Fri before storm, similar situation except:
* Water was VERY clear
* Not even smelt being caught
* Only tiny lizard fish being caught near surface on sabikis with varying feature sizes (bait to mack/bonito sizes)

Tried all corners of end: LC110, splasher, jig + feather sabiki

Saw a regular that picked off some of the tiny Bonito at Newport Pier recently
