Have the piers between Huntington Beach and San Clemente reopened from the oil spill?

Sounds good. I'll be C&R anyway. As long as I can get a line in the water I don't really care if it's technically still not allowed. Good on whoever tossed the sign LOL

Any update? Might hit one of the OC piers this week.

Marina Del Rey Sportfishing Dock is Open

Per the gentleman on the phone it's $10 for 3 hours, with live bait. Not going to be a high priority spot for me but if I'm in the area I might burn a few hours trying it out.

    Catalina Deux — March 2021

What you call "excuses" are learning points for those of us less experienced. Rather than wimpy your post converted limited success on the water into value for more people. If you haven't already, try CBD out. My parents (a retired cop and a ohio girl, both FAR from potheads) gave it a shot and...

Marina Del Rey Sportfishing Dock is Open

I was looking at party boat rates and noticed that Marina Del Rey Sportfishing allows fishing off their dock again. Ever since Davey's Locker shut down their dock for fishing I've been looking for another dock with live bait, so this might be useful to somebody else too. Not sure how much they...

    Balboa Pier Report

3:30PM to 8:30PM. Last minute trip. State of the pier: Mackerel. Mackerel on sabiki rigs four and five at a time. Mackerel on Krocodiles. Mackerel on 1/0 and 2/0 circle hooks with ungodly large chunks of... mackerel, intended to keep the mackerel from getting hooked. Mackerel on cut frozen...

Seven kinds of anglers...? Which type are you?

6/7. As contradictory as that might seem.

A Trip To Avalon, Catalina, and the Mole

Some of the bnb's up the hill include the use of a golf cart. Might be a game changer if you're moving a lot of gear.

A Trip To Avalon, Catalina, and the Mole

Great writeup and great pictures. The colors you pull out of those fish are beautiful. As for the get together, I still remember the first one. It was a great time. If there is a reunion of sorts, I'll be there. Maybe even slap together another T-shirt design like the old days. Edit: I have...

    Catalina trip 2/1/2021. Long W/pic.

Awesome! It's going to be up to the girlfriend what dates we head out, but I will gently nudge us towards that timeframe if her schedule accommodates. Alternatively, she's gonna be in Kentucky sometime in the next few months so if she's out of town I may be able to make a solo trip then.

If You Owned a Tackle Shop / What are you looking for in a Tackle Shop

I have had two jobs that perfectly illustrated the pessimistic idea, "Don't ever do what you love for work, it will only sour you on the things you enjoy". It can be true, even if it's a bummer. However, the job I'm doing now I love, and it has nothing to do with my hobbies. I sell and design...

If You Owned a Tackle Shop / What are you looking for in a Tackle Shop

Running any retail brick & mortar is hard, especially in California, and especially these days. I agree that there is a vacuum of youtube content related to pier and shore fishing, especially in California as well. This is a great entry point. Use the store to fund high quality, consistent...
