Thornback Tuesday At Seal Beach Pier

Fished this morning at SB and had a crazy Thornback bite. Caught and released 14! Most I have ever caught in one trip! Also caught jacksmelt, topsmelt and a queenfish. Released the jacksmelt, used the topsmelt and queenfish as live bait no takers. No mackerel around. Good weather conditions for fishing. Overall a fun fishing morning.

We had a crazy run of thornback rays at the Richmond Marina last year, when a dead grey whale washed ashore and was left to rot rather than towed out to sea. The waterfront residents were not happy.

Do they mate in shallows or deep? I always thought summer brings rays like thornback into shallows. So interesting.
