Rock Crabs and Domoic Acid

#1
Hi everyone. I plan to go to Fort Point this weekend and do some crabbing. Does anyone know if its safe to eat the crabs or is the domoic acid level too high. Thanks!

1) From the Mendocino/Humboldt county line to Cape Mendocino, Humboldt County, and 2) from the Humboldt Bay entrance, north jetty, to the California/Oregon border. CDPH recommends that consumers not eat the viscera (internal organs, also known as "butter" or "guts") of crabs caught in these two areas.
Fort Point isn't in that region.

But any Dungeness caught in the bay area (Pt Reyes to Pillar Point), the advice is to not eat the butter.

CDPH has issued a consumption warning for Dungeness crab caught in two areas : 1) From Shelter Cove, Humboldt County (40° 01.00′ N. Lat.) south to Point Arena, Mendocino County (38° 57.50′ N. Lat.) and from Point Reyes, Marin County (38 ° 00.00′ N. Lat.) south to Pillar Point, San Mateo County (37° 30.00' N. Lat.). CDPH recommends that consumers not eat the viscera (internal organs, also known as "butter" or "guts") of crabs caught in these two areas. The viscera usually contain much higher levels of
domoic acid
.

Last time I checked, Fort Point is between Point Reyes and Pillar Point. Unless there's another Fort Point I don't know about...

YoungAsianFisher, I think we are in deep agreement with one another without realizing it.

Any Dungeness caught at Fort Point, don't eat the butter. Rock Crabs (subject of this thread) caught at Fort Point, no such advice.
