Haven't been an active fisherman in a few years. Decided to get back on it last year, trying new places and revisiting some old haunts.
So it was a nice morning out at Hueneme. Plenty of smelt to be had, small to medium size from mid pier out to the end. Nothing huge. I used a few smelt as bait, only ended up catching a small staghorn sculpin; the bait was almost as big as he was.
Saw someone catch a medium skate type ray out at the end. The people crabbing were having good success with the rock crabs, I should bring a net next time. Saw only a few mackerel caught.
