K, let's do a fishing meetup. This will be perch grubbing for beginners. March 21 Saturday Crissy Field beach 8am. I will post details in this thread.

I'll take the time to show beginners how to do this kind of fishing for a few minutes at the top of the hour all morning. The rest of you can just fish the nice tide. Let's take the beach back from them Fly fishers! You will need to have a fishing license and your own gear. I will bring some grubs, weights and swivels and stuff to use. And some drinks and snacks.

After March 31, this beach is closed for a bit to perch fishing.

Ok more details. Thanks for your interest.

Let's meet at the left end of the rocks on the beach (west end) in front of the main parking lot. It is in between the bathroom and the Volta charging station. picture included here. So as you drive down the main entrance driveway it is dead straight ahead. If there is an event you can park at the "wave organ parking lot" and walk West.

What to bring: License, bass fishing sized gear, 1/2 oz egg sinkers, swivels, 10-15lb fishing line, plastic grubs. small hooks from size 4 to 2. Wading at your own risk. Screen Shot 2020-03-03 at 8.23.49 AM.png

so for gear here are my suggestions:
1. fishing license - there's no pier. we will be on shore thus you need a fishing license
2. You will be throwing a Carolina rig weighing about 1/2oz more or less so you need a rod and reel and line for this kind of thing, at a beach location. 6'6" 7' or 8.6" rod would be good. 3000 to 4000 size spinning reel or bass fishing casting reel.
There is a technique for fishing a big surf but we will be at Crissy field beach so you don't need big gear
3. 10-15 lb mono fishing line or equivalent braid
4. the Carolina rig is a 1/2oz egg sinker, swivel, about 18" of mono or flour leader, size 2,4,or 6 hook.
5. the bait is a plastic grub sometimes used for crappie fishing. Or if your tackle shop is good they have grubs specifically for perch grubbing. Colors: green or brown ish. yellow, grey, black sometimes works
6. layers of clothes, footwear to take the sand and water. you don't need to wade but if if you have waders bring them

Announcement: Hey all, this is still on this coming Saturday weather permitting (high winds or lightning I will cancel). However due to current events (pandemic) I will not be hosting snacks and drinks or encouraging people to congregate in close proximity. I will provide some instructions and demos while we are all keeping our social distance from each other fishing out there in the fresh air.

Announcement: well from what London and Trumpy says, no groups of people, so I'm cancelling any organized activity for this now. I'll probably be out there fishing on my own trying to be socially distant and upwind of people. We shall postpone this to later in the year and out in Ocean beach because of the closure as Happy Wanderer has correctly identified.
