Oyster point pier 7/28

Went to the pier at around 4pm, fished until 8pm. Only saw a few small 7 gill sharks landed, one undersize striper, and a tiny halibut. I lost 2 jacksmelt and then they stopped biting all together. The sharks were on squid, and the other fish were on live anchovies. I ended the day with 2 small 7 gill sharks and a bunch of messed up mono fish finder rig leaders after the sharks gnawed at them.

There is a one 7-gill shark per day limit but no limit on size. Personally, I think that's ridiculous. Catching a baby 7-gill that is a couple of feet long is like robbing the cradle.

No no, I didn’t take them, I just threw them back. Sorry if the wording was a little misleading. Even without the size limit, it wouldn’t even be worth the effort to keep them.

No, no, I wasn't referring to you but I've just seen so many people that keep the babies — both 7-gills and threshers.

Well, the one good thing that day was that all of the other guys threw them back too, only thing I’ve seen being taken home at oyster point is small to medium bat rays from about 10 pounds and above. Also any legal halibut or stripers.
