The bite is anything but hot. A lot of hanging out with old friends, having food and drink, and telling stories.
I charted a lot of hours (along with many others) to catch the 1 25” halibut at 7:30pm packing up to leave.
Calling it quits as 1 of our companeros, Dom, pulled in a 23” striper. I already had pulled both rod holders and 1 rod out. I reeled in my second rod, an UglyStik 1 piece 7’ Intercoastal spinner/Okuma ABF-40, cleared some weeds off, and tossed it back in with the 4” smelt on a trap-rig. I figured 5 minutes more since I saw Dom’s catch.
The other guys that were in my company fishing were already headed to the parking lot skunked. I was 💯 percent packed up except for that 1 rod.
2 minutes later, the bait-feeder starts stripping drag. I thought was another striper as I engaged the reel and slightly tightened the top drag during the brief fight. Fish turned to the pilings and I pulled up to see it was a halibut as it surfaced. A fellow fisherman, Oziel got my net packed up in my cart. He swung it down as I walked backwards to draw the fish closer to net and up comes a 25” halibut at 7:30pm.
I throw it in the tagline, put my 1 rod away, and walk to the parking lot at sundown. IMG_7616.jpeg
