The bay is finally starting to show some California halibut in all parts but I would not say it is full/blown by any means.
Some of the bait is sporadic too with smelt one day and shiners the next. Some sardines are around but no American shad yet.
Caught this 28.5” on a 2-hook/dropper -loop rig with frozen anchovy on 1 hook and a small 3”/tail-hooked smelt on the other with 1 ounce of weight. I had a 7” smelt on my other rod that was hit 1st and slacked up when it touched someone else’s rod to my right. After it missed that meal, it went to my other rod in minutes and doubled over my rod in the rod holder . IMG_5104.jpeg

I also saw one caught (around same size as yours) around Bay area w/live smelt over the weekend and reports of ~4 more caught on that same day Saturday. Did yours eat the smelt or anchovy?

It a actually hit the dead anchovy, frozen anchovy. I sometimes add dead bait to a rig that has live bait to put some scent along with it.

Ok thanks - I'm using salted anchovies for stripers but no luck so far. Will try again this weekend if weather holds up.
