Jigpara color for night fishing

Does the color of the jig matter at night when fishing from a pier? I tried throwing an AliExpress jigpara copy that weighs 21g silver with glow stripes (charged glow with UV light) and haven’t had any luck. Not even a mackerel bite… I tried letting it fall to the bottom and then jerking it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I use Jigpara slow in 20g and 10g, slower fall rate would let them have time to see it and eat it. Glow lure will not help much in this case, since most things in nature don't glow, believe it or not black and dark blue and generally darker colored lures work very well at night. Fishing for macks you should just jig it top water column, usually about 4 or 5 feet deep at most. My favorite rig for fishing mackerel at night is high and low small hook, with black and chartreuse crappie magnet, with jigpara slow sardine pattern on the bottom, good luck!!!

Thanks for the tip! I had my eye on the 20g purple jigpara standard but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet. Does the jig sabiki get hit more than a rig with a glow stick and piece of mackerel on a hook? Also, have you caught any other species at night on the pier using the jigpara? I’ve seen videos of people catching bass species from bays using the jigpara so I would assume it works too?

I would say a glow stick and piece of mackerel on a hook is the most simple and effective way to catch macks at night, but jig sabiki is more fun to use, sometimes you catch 2 or 3 at a time, and your hands don't get dirty from handling slimy baits. Sometimes I do catch barracuda on the jigpara at night, but mostly just Macks.

Sabiki with mackerel pieces is a deadly combo to catch mackerel.

The jigpara should offer versatility in terms of species.
What size would work best for the pier when jigging for something other than Mackerel? 20-30g?

I don't use the jigpara but I think 15g-30g will cover your needs. If you were to pick one then 20g will do. Main thing is getting the lure in the appropriate water column. If you can add a small strip of mackerel on the jigpara then that should help too.

Mackerel are easy and really fun to catch. Once you have one on the hook the other mackerel will also start coming after the lure.
