Got to the pier at 6 am and started off just past the bait shop on the North side. I fished the start of the outgoing tide and there was very moderate wind and swell. I started off fishing a sabiki tipped with mackerel with a float and caught four medium-sized jacksmelt. It slowed considerably until about 9, and until then I caught only some bait-sized smelt, sardines, and a thornback. Around 9, the bite picked up again, and I caught four more in quick succession. I caught one more large smelt (14") at around 10:30, then left by 11.
