Decided to check out Hermosa Beach Pier following OccasionalFisherman’s report of bonito being caught at the pier. I’m glad I did as there was an exceptional showing of boneheads! The yellowtail made a passing when I first arrived, what a sight to see!
Fished outgoing tide from 16:30 - 20:00 - 7’ medium, fast action rod - 8# mono and used Majorcraft Jigpara and 1/2 oz silver Kastmaster with size 2 feathered treble hook connected.
My gf and I caught a total of 23 bonito, 11 mackerel, 2 salema, and 1 lizardfish. Gave my limit of 5 away to fellow fisherman next to me, all others released. What a shame to see countless fishermen hauling in several boneheads at a time on sabikis with no regard to limits. The average bonito size being caught ranged from 10-14 inches.
In the mix I saw some smaller sculpin being brought up closer to sunset. All in all, it was nice to see Hermosa producing once again 🎣 🐟
