While doing research for some past reports, I came across this post on PFIC.
It is a nostalgic one, there are spelling and I am sure grammatical errors. I did not change them.
I am still a terrible speller, but now I know how to use the spell-checking function.

Dear fellow pier rats, greetings and salutations.
This being my first massage might be a little long but I hope you will bear with me and the next ones will be shorter. First of all I would like to thank two (2) people. First is “toejamer” who told me about this site and second is Mr. Ken Jones, whom I understand started this Website.
I have been reading the massage board for a few weeks now and learning a lot about the art of ocean fishing in the Southern California. Since my arrival to USA, I had fished mostly in the fresh waters when I could. However; for some time now I have not been able to go fishing due to other priorities. One night while walking on the Manhattan pier I saw people catching fish and then the light when on!! Instead of whishing to go to Canada or Mammoth or places that are far and need a weekend to get to, why not come to pier and fish.
Needless to say, but I say it any way, I have been hooked, I have the fewer, I am addicted, you name it and I feel it. And reading about people who are as much in love with fishing that would get up at 4Am, to go to Redondo pier like I did makes me feel that I am not so crazy after all.
Now to fishing report.
As unofficial representative of pier rats I entered the 9th. Annual Manhattan Beach surf fishing tournament, on Saturday, July 23rd. We were to fish from 8 am to 12 noon from the surf and for corbina only. Having caught my fist corbina using sand crabs, on the first cast, two days earlier, I had high hopes. I had many sightings of nice size corbina but the bait was always in the water in the opposite direction.
The only catch of the day for me was a small BSP, which was released. When I was reeling in the line for the last time I noticed the hook was missing! I did not feel the hit but the end of leader was curly, which could mean my improved clinch not must have not been very good on that hook. I will never know if that was a strike by a possible winner corbina.
My fishing buddy who used ghost shrimp, caught two (2) 10” ones. The winner was a lady who had used mussels and had a fish weighting 1.8 lbs.
Currently water is clear at Manhattan and Mac attach is back.
I will be posting more from my future fishing endeavors, but if the fellow rats are interested, I will gladly share my past pier and surf adventures with you.
Till next time hope you enjoy your fishing trip even if you don’t catch a fish.
