World Ocean Day is an international day that takes place annually on 8 June. If you do a bit of googling you may find local events. I heard an interview with someone from the Monterey Bay Aquarium talking about the ocean conditions--what has improved (not a lot) and what has not (plastic pollution, habitat loss).
