Today I arrived at Seal Beach pier with my usual enthusiasm. As I was unloading my truck and loading my fish cart, I realized I had forgotten my tackle box!

No hooks, no weights, no pliers, no measuring tape, no rigs, etc.

I just stared into the back of my truck and questioned my sanity.

Oh well! It was a nice drive. The fish got a break today! LOL.

LOL that is every fisherman's nightmare, I would find the nearest tackle store and drop by to buy some hooks and lures!!! You should organize an emergency tackle box, leave it in your truck always, for occasions like this.

I once was fishing and had to stop to watch my granddaughter's soccer match. Put my rods up against the right side of the car and drove off without them. Of course they were gone when I returned. I was on one of my pier hopping trips along the coast so quickly went out to buy two new rods and reels. I wasn't a happy camper at that point.

Ouch! That hurt losing two rods/reels!

That said, what is the absolutely bare minimum tackle selection you could get by with?
I've adapted some of what I learned down there and caught plenty of trout on the Snake river on just a dropshoot and a Gulp! minnow.

I remember fishing with the basics as a kid because we were just plain po' folks.
I had a cane pole my mom added guides to by bending safety pins and taping them to the pole. She added a reel we got from the Blue Chip stamp catalog. It must've turned a few heads, but I don't think I've ever fished with a better rig.
That's the way I learned to fish. The rest I picked up here and there and places like here at PFIC.
It's good that kids have places like this to pick up the basics. Thank you, Ken and the rest.

Hey, I remember I was packing to get inside of the gate before 5 pm at John Sutter Pier under the San Francisco Bay Bridge a couple of years ago. The pier is almost a mile away so I brought my mountain bike (not electric). But what I forgot in my haste was the 2 fishing rods that I strapped to the frame of the bike with bungee cords. Then it came to me, the road on Observation Point is a 2.5 trail over part of the Bay Bridge to Yerba Buena/Treasure Island, so leaving my fishing rods behind is the only reason I have ever bicycled across the Bay Bridge!
