Some herring in SF Bay today. Hasn’t been a spawn at the pier in (4) years. The last spawn I invited PFIC member Dsrtegal down from Santa Rosa to join in the fun. He has just in the last couple months left California for Washington. Pacfic herring is the last commercial fishery inside the SF Bay, and with the declining numbers, they haven’t allowed it in the last couple years. Also, sport take has been limited to (2) 5 gallon buckets in the last 2 years. The last pictures I added are the southside of the pier facing San Francisco.

All it takes is a cell phone and you've got a crowd.
Correct Ken. It wasn’t the ‘Net this time. There was a mention on “The Lost Anchovy” site but it only mentioned that the herring were schooling up at the Richmond Rockwall (Brooks Island) out in the water behind the pier. They do that every year but this is the first time the herring have come to the actual pier in (4) years.

Note: ADDED the last (3) photos for Saturday 01/13/24
Light rain, heavy winds but many more people today in full rain gear. Spawn was slower with many more sea lions and seals. I just observed today.
