This has been my go to for rockfish and lings since before it was even called dropshotting..........yah....I am an older fart.........My rig is pretty simple.......a 2 hook drop shot rig.......a 3-5" plastic on the upper hook and up to a 10" plastic on the lower........the super long plastics however.....WILL NOT WORK with the 2-hook per line rockfish regs in many areas as you HAVE to have a stinger on the longer baits..........I usually use torpedo leads of appropriate weight using this system and rig them so they are sacrificial.......
WHERE TO USE IT.......
Rock walls.......
Piers...........Like Trinidad........
Boat Harbors and Docks........
THE BEACH
WAS INSANELY DEADLY off "The Spoon" back in the day.........Esp in the "eddy" off the right side
MOST.......Dropshot too fast.......
MOST.......twitch the tip too hard
Remember......it is a "finesse" presentation.....
I have caught MANY slab perch using this technique as well by downsizing the size of the plastics........ESP during the spawn
When casting and retrieving plastics does not work in a fishy are......Try Dropshotting.......another piece of advice is to scale down the size of the presentation
