Crazy good day at mcnears

#1
Today I decided to go to mcnears for the whole day from 8-5 in hopes of a sturgeon. To my surprise, I got to the park at 8:00 sharp and as I pulled into the parking lot there was already four anglers on the left corner. The men were fishing for sturgeon also and had taken up all the rod real estate on the left side so I went right and set up for the day. Shortly into the trip the men caught a very small striper and a sizable starry flounder just after. Once the clock hit 10:30 one of my rods started going of. It ended up being a nice 22" striper which I kept for dinner tonight. Through the day various keepers and shakers were caught probably around 8 stripers all together. As I was getting ready to pack up one of my rods got a very small hit that looked to be of a striper or a jacksmelt. When I set the hook it felt enormous. After a short but valiant fight the finally surfaced next to the pier and to my surprise it was a sturgeon. Once I saw the fish I started screaming for my net and slowly but surely the fish was eventually netter and brought up onto the pier. It came in at 42 inches to the fork and the whole pier was very excited to see one expect for the men in the left corner who seemed very salty and gave me the the side eye for the rest of the day. I got my photo and the fish was released shortly after. With a keeper bass for dinner and a dino in the books I would say today was an excellent day at mcnears.

the sturgeon hit in herring that i rig with my secret method i will teach anyone if they are lucky enough to meet me. but basic a full herring on a 8/0 big river hooker with 3/8s of an ounce on the 80lb Dacron leader for the sturgeon. the stripers and flounder were hitting on a 5/0 bait holder hook with an anchovy that had his head and tail cut off with 60lb mono leader. i used a 10oz of the front for the sturgeon and an 8oz off the side for the stripes. both with pyramids and both on a fish finder rig.
