$53 Round Trip to Avalon out of Newport Beach on Groupon right now. Monday-Thursday or maybe, Thursday-Monday if you have the time.

I humbly disagree.

The Catalina Flyer boat gets to Avalon around 11:00 AM and promptly departs at 4:30 PM.

Whereas the first Catalina Express gets to the island around 7:30 AM and most days the last one leaves the island at 7:30 PM.
You do the math.

I have no affiliation with Catalina Express, just pointing out facts.

The 24 hrs. parking rate at the Long Beach terminal is about $23.00, if memory serves.
Not sure about the Newport beach.

That gives you half a day to fish, all night, and most of the next day. I’ve never paid for parking in Newport. While you might have to hunt a little, there is always street parking.

You are correct if one plans to stay overnight or more than one day.

However, for a day trip, CE is still a better deal in my opinion.

If one gets a ride to the CE terminal, it is a saving for parking too.
