Burden of Patience

Burden of Patience? I've frequently told fellow anglers that they need patience and persistence to become good fishermen. Then, the other day, one of my fishing friends Evan used the term "Burden of Patience."

It's not always easy having patience — not only in the angling world but with so much of life. And, I think it's gotten worse in our modern world with all the gadgets we have, many designed to make life faster and easier.

But patience is a good virtue in my book and important when we face life's darker moments.

Like a lot of things, I initially disagreed with this point of patience being a burden. After doing some research, I think I get it.

Savlanut is apparently the Hebrew word for patience. It implies carrying a load. Fishermen carry mental and physical loads just to get out on the water.
We all know folks who deal with the burdens of poor health, age, losing a loved one, finances, etc.
So the burden of patience is clear.
Thanks for giving me something to chew on.🙂

Like most things, choosing patience is a habit. The more often the choice is made, the easier it gets. The thing that makes it difficult is most things around us, are looking to serve us by indulging and triggering our impulses in the moment. This is how most advertising works.

For those of us who have developed a habit of choosing patience then it no longer feels like a burden. But developing the habit initially requires discipline and focused intention.
