I went to Bolsa Chica with a friend on Saturday. There was a minus tide, which allowed her access to the inlet without climbing on rocks. This turned out to be a bad idea. After the initial slope, the bottom is very flat. Combined with a strong onshore breeze, this made casting into even modestly deep water impossible. The water flowing out of the inlet was way too fast for predators too fight, until the tide changed, and it continued flowing quickly even as the tide came back in. Neither of us even felt a bite.
Never the less, it was a nice day. The beach was just littered with a wide variety of shells, including scallops and piddocks.
