I've started fishing for salmon here in my home waters. Its been really dead here this early summer. I fish here about 3 times a week and visit town almost every day. So after throwing spinners, I switched to striper lures like a ratLtrap, swimbait, and a kastmaster when the wind started kicking up after work. Hooked into this nice 19-20" stripers, about the same length as the ocean beach fish the day before - but this one was fatter and stronger with a good fight on my abu c3 set to low drag.

Nice catch! Definitely fatter. You're smart to switch it up...salmon fishing from shore looks brutal.

Nice catch Alan! Have been wondering about salmon in the straits and along Highway 4. I guess it will start a little later this year? Was thinking about perhaps sturgeon along the straits near Crockett or Port Costa too.

we're always there early hoping a small school shows up early so we can go brag. but we soon realize its just the normal pattern, when they start showing up in significant numbers, around late August. mostly september.

these are sturgeon waters. i don't fish for them though.
