Subject: In search of perch (again) — I found a few...
Set out on a mission this morning to visit Angel Island to talk to the rangers about using it as a site for a Pier Fishing Get Together—AND—to find a few more perch than last week.
(1) Fished Elephant Rock Pier from 7:55-9:25 a.m.
Results:
3 Cabezon
2 Black Rockfish
1 Blackperch
1 Kelp Greenlng
1 Striped Kelpfish
1 Dwarf Surfperch
2 LARGE Rock Crabs
All of the fish with the exception of the kelpfish, dwarf surfperch and one cabezon were caught in the same hole in the rock under the pier.
(2) Fished the Angel Island Pier from 10:30 a.m. - 1:15.
Results:
21 Blackperch (of which about 1/2 were nice plate-sized fish.
11 Brown rockfish — mostly small
1 Black Rockfish
The tide was receding when I got to the pier and I wasn’t sure what to expect but the first hour and a half were non-stop action (almost). Then things slowed down. The only problem was the cost: the ferry costs $7 and the parking cost $10.
(3) Fished the Ferry Point Pier from 2:30-3:00
Results:
1 Shinerperch
1 Bullhead (Staghorn Sculpin)
JUST a little slow.
All fish were caught on pile worms using my light pole, 2 hooks, and a one-ounce torpedo sinker. All fish were returned to the water to grow and fight another day.
I’ll post more about Angel Island later.
A beautiful day! In the morning it was a little overcast and foggy, a perfect contrast to the steady 90+ degree days we’ve been having in the Valley (Lodi). In the afternoon the clouds lifted and it was sunny and warm. What a nice day.
