Good Idea to Keep Fishing License Around

Several weeks ago I was fishing Sat afternoon through the evening at Dana Point Harbor pier when a DFW officer visited and started making small talk with everyone fishing then asked for their fishing licenses even though this pier doesn't require a fishing license (if it does please let me...

Thanks for sharing this article. I wonder if the experiment would be successful with current knowledge and technology at our disposal.

    Fish ID

Wow that's a new one for me that I'll add bonefish to my list of catches. I got it on mussel on hi lo rig and for a little guy (6-7 inches) it was pulled my rod down like a 10-12 inch smelt which I thought I caught. Thanks!

Why have Fishing Catch Numbers Declined?

Hi all - this is totally anecdotal but I've been fishing for 4 years now and noticed a steady decline in quantity and quality of fish during my outings (I usually try to fish weekly at south Orange County piers (Dana Point, San Clemente). I recall catching sheephead, legal-sized bass, and...

    Fog and Fishing

I was at San Clemente Pier last Sat 6AM-10AM and fog was so thick I could see water drops collecting at the bottom of my rod eyes. I was fishing with shrimp on double dropper loop on 1 rod and throwing a metal lure with feathers in hopes for bonito on the other rod and only caught a yellow fin...

Balboa Pier Thu 9/26 & 10/3 COLD water - tough bite

Yea I appreciated the brief but at same time informative report too - i think 1 bonito caught during these conditions is great.

San Clemente Pier - September 11th.

I think it's $1.50 per hour after 9AM at the Pier Bowl parking lot. If you get there before 9AM you can still pay and it'll record your time to start in 1/2 hour increments after 9AM.

San Clemente Pier - September 11th.

Why Are Fishing Equipment Prices So High?

Yes I've used Omniflex before and agree with you - speaking of cheaper fishing line have you tried Walmart's Fitec Legend mono fishing line? For Japanese tackle - thanks for the idea - any website(s) you recommend?

Why Are Fishing Equipment Prices So High?

I realize we went through post-Covid inflation of ~8% or so which is now down to like ~2.6% but when I compare to some sample fishing equipment prices, it seems crazy how high they are now. Here're a few samples: Daiwa BG 3000 Reel - I bought this for ~$85 ($80 pre-tax) pre-COVID and now they...

    Nor Cal Bait Prices 6/27

I'm from So Cal visiting East Bay and noticed some big differences in bait prices. For example, 1 lb frozen anchovies are ~$10 and a dozen pile worms are around $18 up here. Not sure if anyone has found any cheaper prices if so please feel free to share info. Also - I've learned from my short...
