Dana harbor is unique because it is so close to the open ocean. I've caught many legal halibut and short white seabass from inside the harbor. I've seen giant squid, barracuda cruise by and of course there's the famous video of the guy spearing a bft from the docks .

It's best to practice cleaning the bait off the shell so that the meat isn't damaged. When I hook the bait ,I go from the top where the black wormy looking part ends . You want to hook to exit through the foot like a worm .

Thanks for the report. I only go there to fish crab once a year in the winter. I didn't know that fishing was allowed anywhere but the end of the pier.

That's sad news. My dad would take me fishing there for bonita and macs . Fished many times off the Redondo Special as well.

Want to take my kid to fish the derby , but I've never been there . Any suggestions on where to park?

Call a nearby Ralph's supermarket and check with the seafood department. The black mussels work although pricey .
