Ocean Beach Pier — Rebuild?

It would be epic to witness the project from beginning to end.
That said, I wonder if we're looking at a future candidate for the Gone But Not Forgotten section. The article stated the original pier was created for fiahing. I imagine at this point maintenance of the current pier is a financial burden. If it's demolished, it's hard not to look at the hurdles in the way of a replacement.
