Monterey Coast Guard Pier

Hello,

It's been a long time since I've been fishing. Planning to head down the the coast guard pier this weekend in Monterey. Do I need a license to fish there? Any tips? Been about 10 years since I last been down there. I remember a lot of a seaweed.

Per this website, seems like a public pier so no license required. Never fished there before so no tips from me. Here's a link to the site article:

I was walking the pier just before the covid lock down. It looked like a good place to fish. There was a lot of kelp but also many clear spots. Good luck.

I have fished there only once but it was a blast. Right down the rocks, there are some nice black&yellow and grass rockfish. Casting out into kelp yielded a variety of fish as well to me, mainly blue rockfish. HiLo rig with size 4 hooks. For the rock, just straight down, looking for deeper holes!
