Brief report before spring bite kicks into the San Francisco Bay. The weather is finally starting to stabilize after somewhat unusual weather. I believe fish have finally ventured well into their journeys from the ocean to the bay and the delta into the bay; slowly but surely.

I fished yesterday after work commencing at about 3:30 and ending at sunset around 7:30 (now that we have the extra daylight).
Not much doing for the morning anglers when I arrived with very few baitfish caught and just a few sea perch for those fishing for them. I netted a few 3” (smaller) smelt that were really a lot smaller than I like to use. Some regular fishermen that I knew left me a couple smelt about 6” as they were leaving at 4:30 with nothing to show for their time fishing.

About 5:30, down went my salmon/steelhead rod and a nice hook set in the rod holder.
A nice 23.5” striper (pictured below). I figured I would limit out with a second one, and stayed to sunset at 7:30, but that was not to happen. A little too early for halibut in the Northbay so far.
