Fished Wednesday morning, caught and released 2 Batrays and several White Croaker. A few Jacksmelt caught by other fisherman. Water very dark brown, basically dirty because of runoff from recent rain. Lots of debris washed on shore. I caught a Route 66 Umbrella. I released it straight into trash bin. Take care everyone! 🙂

Lots of trash at that pier and also at the finger piers by the marina following storms. Can also be true at Seal Beach.
I sent pictures to City of Long Beach. Received a response that information was sent to beach maintenance department. Hope shore is cleaned up sooner than later.

Given that the so-called Los Angeles River, a many-mile long, concrete river that when dry is usually filled with trash from homeless encampments, enters the bay just upshore from Belmont, and just past the finger piers, it's inevitable that trash will be carried to the sea whenever there is rain runoff. It's common for many rivers to have trash flow to the sea after storms but few have the amount of trash seen by the Los Angeles River.

Where do you like to surf fish at Long Beach? What species do you target, rig set up, and baits? Thank you.
From the jetty area to Junipero. My target was halibut but I did not find any luck. Got lucky with a spotfin croaker on a SP Minnow Bullet around that area. Spotfin Croaker slammed the lure. Surf fishing is relatively new to me especially when I use hardbaits. I'm sure with bait it'll be easier.

Take heart. I've seen scores of piers from the Oregon border down to Mexico. Filthiest ones are in my region, the Bay Area. Compared to those, SoCal piers are immaculate.
Fair enough. In my limited experience, I'd say Long Beach has been the dirtiest I come across mainly due to the reasons which Ken pointed out.

Exactly what I've witnessed. The LA River is a very large river picking up lots of trash along the way.

I sent photos to the City PIO. Photos forwarded to beach maintenance. The beach has been cleaned.
