Ken, a guy visiting a pier here in the Bay Area last week was from San Diego and he mentioned 'a pier that was downtown.' It must of been Embarcadero Pier that you featured here above. I was unaware of this pier and kept suggesting that he was perhaps referring to Shelter Island Pier. I don't know San Diego at all well and remember actually getting lost for a minute traveling across one of those freeways (before I had a GPS). I guess that was a while ago when we joined that 1st DFG kid's derby at Pepper Park.

You probably wouldn't find this pier if you didn't know where to look. It's hidden back behind the convention center.

BTW, that first kids derby at the Pepper Park Pier was in 2005. I think that's the young Mr. Red Fish in these pictures with the top picture also showing Rich Reano our webmaster?

Robert, Here's another picture from that 2005 Pepper Park Pier Kids Derby. That's Dompfa Ben on the left, Ed Zeralski San Diego Union-Tribune (I think) in the dark shirt, Gordo Grande in the middle, and you on the right. That derby was our second derby down in San Diego after one in 2004 at the Bayside Park Pier.

I sure wish I could have made a trip to Crystal Pier (not sure how many more miles?) while I was down there to try for some yellowtail. It was a nice 6 hour drive, cruising all the way. Can't believe the last (15) years went by that fast. My nephew was just (2) and my nieces were just being born. A lot of my fishing goals have changed since then!
