Day two saw continued slow fishing and though I have to get back to my records at home to check, it may have been the slowest day in my many trips to Catalina.
Catalina dawn
Green Pleasure Pier: 7:20-10:05 a.m.
3 ocean whitefish, 3 senorita, 3 ocean whitefish, 1 sheephead, 1 garibaldi, 1 rock wrasse and 1 Pacific mackerel.
I tried lug worms, ghost shrimp, market shrimp, cut mackerel and even squid with almost all of the fish being caught on the worms. Didn't catch a single kelp bass which was the first time ever at the pier. Usually the kelp bass are the number one fish at the pier.
Cabrillo Mole: 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
SUPER slow, only a late in the afternoon flurry of mackerel made the stats even reasonable.
12 jack mackerel (aka Spanish mackerel), 5 Pacific mackerel, 5 kelp bass, 4 garibaldi, 2 blacksmith, 2 senorita, and 1 sheephead.
Fish were caught on a variety of baits with lug worms and market shrimp being the top producers. A couple of fish on ghost shrimp but ran out of them, only a couple of fish on cut anchovies/mackerel, and no fish on cut squid (as usual) at the Mole). All of the mackerel were caught on Sabikis which I began to try out during the last half hour or so.
