I fished the Trinidad Pier for a few hours each day......Swell conditions were minimum......Water Clarity better than usual.....Anyone that dives the area can tell you how bad the water clarity usually is there......BUT.......There was more kelp on both sides of the pier than I have ever seen before I have been going there a long time. On occasion I could actually SEE fish swimming around the kelp........Fished just one rod, my 7'9" Spiral Wrapped Shikari Mag Bass, with a new Abu Garcia Mag Bass Reel loaded with 40# Braid........I started out with a 2 hook hi-lo with 17# Cajun Red Leaders.....but it was snag city.....Bait was Gulp Camo Sand Worms and they were getting BIT....I just could no stick a hook in anything.....I tried the Gulp Ssandworms because they can be purchased at most tackle shops, and they do not need cold storage so they are a viable option for someonethat is out camping like I was....Hooks might have been too big.....I just don't know.......Both days I was getting hit hard but could not get a single hook-up so I ended up giving up in disgust fishing wise.....As I get older I just don't have the patience I used to......and I was getting seriously sunburnt even with SPF 50....CURSE OF THE REDHEAD.......Only saw 2 fish caught while I was there.....a dink greenling and a decent Striped Perch.......THAT WAS IT. Looking forward to trying the Gulp Sand Worms at Fort Baker once the big perch start to show......Pileworms are insanely expensive these days....IF YOU CAN FIND THEM.
