I was able to land a nice 32 inch halibut at Torpedo Wharf this afternoon by using a swim bait. My thanks to the fellow angler for posing with the fish for a pic.
Things seemed to have slowed down at Torpedo. It’s likely due to the current set of minus tides. Shakers continue to be caught around the pier, but keepers are still hard to come by. And now bat rays, along with the occasional leopard shark, are starting to show up resulting in a few tangled lines.
Most of the guys live baiting are using anchovies, But some are trying live smelt. The smelt tend to be in the 7inch+ range. Definitely the kind of bait a larger fish might go after, but as I mentioned in a previous post, the large fish seem to be few and far between. Numbers-wise, live anchovies are still out-fishing everything else.
