Been looking at them to just throw in the trunk with a basic kit just in case......Here is a review of one type and a video on the mods he did.

Not perfect......but they come in lengths from roughly 6-12' for about $30......

Giving some serious thought to getting the longest Casting Version of this rod and pairing it up with a new Abu Black Maxx for a trunk setup. I would get the nearly 12" Spinning Rod later and pair it with my Okuma Baitfeeder.

Man, there was one I got for a friend because his car and kids kept breaking his good perch rods. It was nice too. I was gonna get a couple for myself but amazon stoped selling them.

Btw, met a guy at the bank that just keeps one in his car. I was wearing a fishing shirt and saw the rod in his car. I asked if he was going fishing. His reply was, "No, you never know when you might need to throw a line." Threw up a thumbs up and left.

My longtime fishing buddy Mike, now deceased, was once the South America representative for Shimano and we discussed using telescoping rods on piers several times. In South America, telescoping rods were very popular perhaps in part because many people did not have large cars. He said in Brazil especially that in some areas there were almost as many telescoping rods as regular rods. When he left Shimano he began to import a variety of goods from China (rods and lures) and Africa (fresh and saltwater flies). He brought in several telescoping rods as a test and we took them out to the piers. I never felt comfortable with them. There always seemed to be one problem or another and eventually he gave up on the idea, at least for piers. Perhaps the rods you show are better but I would have to be convinced.

Times have changed Ken.......Telescoping rods are the norm in many applications in Japan and SE Asia.......And many manufacturers have really upped their game......Hey......They start at around $30 for the models in the videos....for that money It might be worth a try just to have a trunk set.

As a custom rod builder, I felt the same way. I only got the rod because my friend's wife asked to help her get a decent one. It also cut down on me having to repair his rods too. I owned a couple of telescopic rods as a kid in the 80s and those rods were just bad, unless you were going to fish from the shore or close to water.

After, receiving the rod, I was VERY impressed with it. I was light weight and though. The action was good too. I'm sure I could build a better qualiy telescopic for myself, but it was and is a nice rod. WARNING, there ARE still bad ones out there. My friend tried to get another type of telescopic rod, and it was just bad. I would think buyers would have to have an "eye" for what they are looking at component wise, and do some research.

The Kastking Blackhawk II is one of the highest rated at its price point.....Spinning or Casting....as is

The Original Black Hawk Spinning is half the price.....Spinning only.....but still pretty highly rated by most independent reviewers......Some mods suggested

Waiting for my overtime money to come through and I am going to get one of each.......IF I can find the exact ones I want

Well, I'm only talking about three years ago when MIke and I were exploring having a PFIC Merchandise Page.

I'm not saying some telescoping rods might not be good, I'm simply saying the ones we tested were not good for most piers. And yes, they were low-end, inexpensive rods. You would be amazed at some of the wholesale prices he could get for products. Of course most required an order that is too big unless you are a retailer. I think his wife is still importing the various flies from Africa; they are cheap to buy (so they have a good profit margin), their quality is better than those offered in China, and the man she deals with is easier to work with than the Chinese companies. She sells them on EBay.

So I purchased an 11'8" Telescopic Sougayilang Spinning Rod from Amazon a while back and got a chance to test it..........Easy to set up.....Handled weights up to 3oz well.......4oz was overdoing it a bit I think......Got LONG casts using a beat up old Pfleuger Spinning Reel and 12# test......Sensitive enough I was able to see Sand Dab Bites.......The rod was $35........There is nothing wrong with this rod as a trunk rod for grab and go stuff.......I still need to catch some bigger fish on it but it is worth the money I think.

At the same time I purchased a 7'6" M Action KastKing Blackhawk II Telescopic Casting Rod From Amazon for $49.........Today it handles weights up to 3oz with no issues paired with a CHEAPO low profile reel.......It is a little harder to set up and get the guides aligned properly because of the "floating guides" but those same guides also handle the line distribution alone the curve of the rod much better than I expected......Like with the other rod.....For a toss it in the trunk in case of emergencies scenario........There is nothing at all wrong with this rod either.......I just need to start catching FISH with the damn thing

Both rods will fit in a big metal tool box I have with plenty of room for gear.......going to make leather protective scabbards for both rods to protect them and then load up the tool box with basic gear
