The Hueneme Pier is still closed, but the beach is open, with 50% parking and designated areas on the sand to keep groups more than 6 ft apart. Fishing has been allowed for a while, but until they opened the parking, it was essentially resident only.
A friend and I went out to fish the incoming tide. The previous three nights had grunion runs. The surf was predicted to be small to moderate, and the winds light. When we got there, we found that the high surf, of the last couple of days, had cut a 3-4 ft bank in the sand, and the beach below the bank was flat, with no apparent structure. I tried various swimbaits, and grubs, and only managed to catch two tiny barred surfperch.
