Stearns Wharf again

Wanted to get some crabs and fresh air so headed north for some New Years crab . Fished from 6 to 9 pm only to find slow fishing . Fresh frozen dines from the receiver as usual for bait . Seems like many more fisherman than years past with hoopnets . Could that be why my catch rates are lower ? Anglers were scratching anchovy on the sabiki rigs and spoke with another angler and he mentioned that at times the schools have been thick . Nets only tonight and didn't bother to break out the rods . Came home with some New Year crab and better yet got to relax on the pier for a bit . Can't complain .

Were you going for Rock Crab or Dungies? I thought Dungies didn't occur much south of Monterey Bay area. Please update me if I'm wrong...
If I can catch some dungies in Santa Barbara... Maybe worth the drive then.

But have to drive up to Pismo or somesuch to use snares rather than hoop nets still...

Only rock crab on Stearns and the occasional spider crab . On even more rare occasions I'll bring up a lobster , although last year on a trip , I pulled up two .
