I can only wish! I've caught only 2, and they were palm-sized. Back in the water it goes.
You must be down here with me... Do you also do most of your fishing between Santa Monica and San Onofre? I've heard there are some chunky
perch down near San Diego beaches... but I haven't caught any down in that area to verify. It's what I heard from a fisherman at Silver Strands
beach when I was down there metal detecting... Of course with the sewage contamination issues in the water there I'd be hesitant about
eating anything non migratory or inshore I caught in that area...

When I lived in LA I fished at Manhattan Pier and surf fish off Long Beach shores. San Clemente pier several times as well. 1st perch off San Clemente pier. I now fish in San Diego but it is tough fishing in San Diego. Seems like bait fishing is the way to go which isn't my style. I like lure fishing. Caught my 2nd perch using bait - combination of a piece of shrimp and sand crab. I haven't fished off Silver Strand. I geenrally fish by areas where there is food and restrooms near by.

Silver Strand is a state beach. There are restrooms, but I'm not sure about food as I have a go-bag that I carry that has a camp stove and
various things to eat. Ice chest with some other good eats if I want to put some effort into preparations. Because of the location though, you
need to be aware of the water conditions. Apparently there is a good bit of runoff from the sewage treatment plants in TJ at that beach...
