Breaking radio silence with a late report, I (still) don't have internet in my studio, and honestly it's a little liberating not having it. Anyways, onto the fishing.

I had a wedding to go to on Saturday, and it just so happened to be near Santa Cruz. Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I drove out to a nearby beach by 7 am. The water was a bit tinted, and was filled with debris, which was more than a little annoying when retrieving my presentation. Thankfully, the swell was mild, and there was not too much wind. I caught a small BSP on a Gulp sandworm on the fifth cast, but afterwards did not get any bites until 9:40. I felt what seemed like more vegetation on my line, but when I tried pulling free, the snag started pulling drag! I pulled in a very nice BSP, and over the next hour, landed four more.
Nice to finally catch a decent sized barred.
Somewhere in the mix, I caught a small walleye surfperch.
Little guy.
I called it by 11 am, and booked it to the venue/campsite with time to spare.
The five largest perch, thankfully all but one had already dropped their babies.

There was a brunch the day after the wedding, so I didn't have time to fish. I tried stopping by Santa Cruz Wharf, but traffic was terrible, and I figured the wharf itself would not be much better.

I decided to have one more go at the surf, this time for my white whale, an open coast striped bass. I drove out to a stretch of the San Mateo coast and got down to the water by 6:30 am to beat the Memorial Day crowds. Conditions looked perfect with a mild swell and almost no wind. I started off throwing a LC Surf Pointer, and within the first few casts, my lure got smoked. After a short tussle, I slid a 25" striper onto the sand.
Not a bad way to start off the morning.
I fished up and down that stretch of beach for a couple more hours for no other fish, and left by 10:30.
