Where were the fishermen? Fished a quiet morning session on the pier. No fishermen on the entire pier. I left at 10: 00 a.m. Lots of local pier walkers. Kind of weird not seeing anyone fishing.

Managed to catch and release some Jacksmelt and a Pacific Chub Mackerel, caught on a sabiki. Kept mackerel for bait.

Also caught a Batray, a Round Stingray, and three Thornback Rays. The rays caught on mixed baits, anchovy, mackeral and squid.

Good luck everyone! 🎣

Great fishing and always nice when you have the pier to yourself! I feel like too many anglers make assumptions that there are no fish to catch based of social media reports. Always worth going out and finding out for yourself!

You’re correct. Two months ago we were at Belmont catching a Mac or queen fish on every cast and multiple fishermen came up to ask what we were using. Simple small hook, small bait and 6lb test. Most of them were using 40lb test giant bait and coffee grinder set ups. No blue fin off the piers :)
