Happy New Year! First trip for 2026. Beautiful sunny morning with a steady bite. Not very many fishermen on pier. Maybe a handful.
Had a steady winter bite with some of the usual species.
Tally was:
17 Thornbacks
3 Jacksmelt
1 Yellowfin Croaker
1 Roundray
1 Lizardfish
Some bait fish in the water. Looked like smelt.
I used a variety of baits, squid, anchovy, lizardfish, shrimp, even an old freezer burned Black perch aka Buttermouth! The Thornbacks ate all the baits including the perch.
Enjoyed the pier environment after so many days of rain.
