Celebrated my father's birthday by going fishing. He would have been 92 today. He introduced the family to fishing. First it was freshwater fishing at local lakes. Then it was surf and rock fishing along the SoCal coast. Sometimes a charter boat to fish the waters around Catalina Island. Eventually we settled into regular pier fishing weekends in the summer months. I feel so blessed and very grateful for the memories of our family fishing trips.
This chilly morning I ventured onto the pier with my fishing cart full of gear and Happy Birthday Dad on my lips.
Despite the wind I managed to catch a variety of fish. The session tally was:
11 Walleye Perch
1 Sandbass (short)
1 Calico Bass (short)
1 Topsmelt
1 Jacksmelt
1 Shiner Perch
2 Roundrays
I didn't know what to expect. I just wanted to be on the pier in memory of my dad. The Good Lord had a plan and he always provides. Today he provided Walleye Perch for a fish fry. My grandsons love fried fish!
Thank you Jesus for the bounty. Thank you dad for teaching me how to fish.
