I've always had better catches of rockfish, lings, and perch from shore. I have done better for Macks, Sardines, shiner perch
and other baitfish from piers. Far more fish by weight from piers, but I've never caught a decent 'keeper' fish from a pier. I
don't enjoy shark/rays so always return them to the water, but these also seem to be more of a pier species for me with more
and larger specimens always being caught on the pier.
For crab it depends. Better for Dungies using snares from shore, but for rock crab hooping from a pier. I've never actually
tried for lobster.
I fish because I enjoy fresh fish, so I'm there to harvest something not just for sport. I don't take more than I can or will eat and
don't think I've ever kept a limit.
