My 3rd trip to Pier J. Caught white croaker and jacksmelt using anchovy and squid. Each prior trip I have caught the same species. No luck fishing the bottom for bat rays, shovelnose guitarfish or any other bottom dwellers. Used squid, mackerel and anchovy. Crabs pretty active on the baits.
Maybe the month or water temperature has somethingto do with lack of these particular fish?
Anyone whose fished this spot, have tips for catching bat rays, bottom species, etc. Thank you.

HI FISHMAN FISHMAN I haven't fished pier j yet will in the future. Fished belmont friday very slow no fish caught anywhere on pier. I have been seeing lots of bait fish in the harbor they weren't to be seen at the pier .I used squid and anchovies for nothing .Tsunami warning today saw no evidence of that , maybe the fish sensed that and split ha. thanks for the report

Thanks for info on Belmont. I've been thinking about a trip out there soon. Where on the pier do you like to fish? I usually go to the end and in the summer I fish both the pier end and surf zone.
